Social Snooker is back

It’s been a while since the club held a social snooker evening so the Lightning Snooker competition held on 24th May was a cause for celebration. Brian Rae, the club’s new chairman, kicked off the evening by welcoming everyone and stating his intention that the club would hold these evenings each month.

Twelve members competed at this event, each playing 6 games of Lightning Snooker. Each game ended either when one competitor reached 11 points or at the first foul shot. With only 3 reds on the table the break shot is tricky meaning that, unfortunately, some games ended with the first shot.

There was some good play during the evening – no one there will forget in a hurry Terry Richardson’s escape from a snooker. With the cue ball close to a colour that blocked his access to the only remaining red and only difficult shots using cushions, Terry swerved the cue ball around the colour to hit the red, earning the admiration of all present. When the red subsequently dropped in a middle pocket the room cheered!

At the end of the evening a clear winner had emerged – Terry Broome was unbeaten in his 6 games. Brian Rae presented his prize to round out the event.

Here’s to the next one!
